She describes the recommended approach for getting starting winter camping: taking preparatory winter camping trips near a bail out vehicle, camping with others experienced in winter camping and giving yourself a safety margin by bringing enough gear to stay warm. It is a well written article relating both solid advice and her experience – worth a read.
