Breakfast for Winter Camping

Instant oatmeal is a cheap and nutritious backcountry camping breaskfast. Made up of ground oat groats precooked and dried, instant oatmeal requires only boiling water and provides a considerable quantity of carbohydrates for energy burning. According to studies reported by MayoClinic.com, the soluble fibers found in instant oatmeal may also improve your overall health by lowering cholesterol. For campers bringing a stove, simply boil a few cups of water and add to the mix while stirring.

Quick-cooking rolled oats  are cut into small pieces before being steamed and rolled. Instant oatmeal is pre-cooked and dried, usually with sweetener and flavoring added. Rolled oats, crushed oats, and other  are often used  because they are quicker to prepare. single-serving packets that cook in only 90 seconds because they have been finely cut.

How to Prepare: Add boiling water to the oatmeal and add in  some of the following ingredients: raisins, dried cranberries, brown sugar, cinnamon, walnuts.

While I enjoy the maple and brown sugar packets, they do come in a variety of flavors. And the best part is, all you need is hot water!
