Snowshoers Under Estimate Dangers from Avalanches

A study entitled “Risk assessment in winter backcountry travel” appearing in Wilderness & Environmental Medicine, 2009 Fall, concluded snowshoers and snowmobilers are groups that tend to underestimate avalanche danger when traveling in the back country. These groups may be unknowingly assuming a higher risk and should be targeted for avalanche education and awareness.

ADK hosts Family Snowshoe Day 12 February

The Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) will host a Family Snowshoe Day on Saturday, Feb. 12. Participants will spend the day snowshoeing on the trails of ADK’s Heart Lake Property,  Lake Placid.
